  1. The moon looks very large to us.
  2. But it is much smaller than the sun and the stars.
  3. It is nearer to us than any other star or planet,
  4. and it looks larger.
  5. The moon is quite far from us.
  6. If we go to the moon in a rocket traveling five thousand miles an hour,
  7. we will get there in about forty-eight hours.
  8. The moon becomes very hot in the daytime and very cold at night,
  9. because the moon has no air to cover it.
  10. The air around the earth protects it from the sun's rays,
  11. and also keeps it from losing too much heat.
  12. For many years men had a dream of reaching the moon to see what was like,
  13. and at last two Americans got to the moon in 1969.
  14. They found no lakes,
  15. rivers,
  16. plants,
  17. or animals there as we know on the earth.
